Referee Regulations & Information


Appointments will only be made to referees that have officially registered with the League. Before accepting any match under the jurisdiction of the League, other than those appointed to, the Secretary MUST be advised. Points and marks will not be collected from any match to which a referee has not been appointed.

Match Appointments and Confirmation

Referees should check the website each week for their appointments. Consult the Secretary in case of difficulty. League rules specify that the home or first named club must confirm the fixture with the appointed referee, AT LEAST FIVE DAYS PRIOR TO THE MATCH. if this rule is not complied with, the referee should make contact with the club secretary, inform the referees Secretary who can then note the non-confirmation, and try to make contact on the referees behalf.

Non-Acceptance or Cancellation of an Appointment

Referees unable to accept an appointment must inform: a) the referees Secretary. b) the home club. Reasons must be given in writing to the referees Secretary if a referee does not follow the above procedure.

Pre-Match Procedure

REFEREES SHOULD ATTEND THE VENUE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO KICK-OFF, TO ENSURE THAT FACILITIES ARE IN ORDER AND THAT THE PITCH IS PLAYABLE.

Protests made to the referee about the dimensions of the pitch, goal posts, cross bars, or any other accessory of the game, BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF THE GAME, should be reported to the League Secretary. Teams without a change of colour, or unnumbered shirts, contravene League rules and must be reported to the League Secretary. If a team fails to arrive the referee will wait up to 30 minutes, before deciding the game be abandoned, a report to the Fixtures Secretary is required. ALL REPORTS IN WRITING PLEASE

Where practical, players studs shall be inspected prior to each match, and teams reminded that items of jewellery must be removed. FOUL OR ABUSIVE LANGUAGE SHOULD BE DEALT WITH IN THE MANNER PRESCRIBED BY F.A. LAW AND SUNDAY LEAGUE DIRECTIVE.

In accordance with Rule 20 (F) names of the proposed substitutes must be given to the referee prior to kick-off. Substitutes not named prior to kick-off will not be permitted to be used.
